BRANSON CHURCHES
In the Branson area,
you can find small little churches nestled in a forest looking
area that you wouldn’t even know was there, unless told, or you
just happened to come across it. One such church is Sycamore
Church on Sycamore Rd. just off the new highway locals call the
low road. It’s a little log cabin church where only a handful
of people attend.
The people of the
Ozarks have always gathered under the trees for church, attended
tent revivals, and have been there to build the churches when no
power tools were even invented. Those same people can usually
recite the scriptures and tell you where they are found in the
Bible. In their homes, you will find their worn-torn Bible next
to their easy chair where they read it to start the day and
again at night.
There are church and
Bible study in homes, community buildings, as well as, big and
little churches. Some members are so poor the church can’t
afford hymnals so the well-known hymns are sung. Other churches
have all the newest technologies, are televised, and have
members who donate very large amounts of money.
The Branson area was
basically a Baptist area, but now faiths of all kinds closely
dot the area. Some Branson churches haven’t changed since the
day they were built 100 or more years ago. Others have been
added on to as money became available. And many of the Branson
churches have been sold to other faiths, when they moved to
their new church.
Like all churches there
have been many marriages. There are several Branson churches
that are known for the simple, but beautiful settings.
Bus loads of people
come from other churches out of town and often from out of
state.
Throughout the years,
after church there were picnics out in the yard where blankets
were spread all around. The children would be running around
laughing and playing. Sometimes there were pie suppers or ice
cream socials. Everyone looked forward to having time to catch
up with their neighbors. Even now, many of the churches either
have a breakfast before church or a dinner after services.
What used to be the Mel
Tillis Theater is now the Tre-Lakes Center, which is a church
and hosts Christian conferences among rental for other needs.
